Allegiant Air
Founded in 1997 under the name West Jet Express, Allegiant Air is a low-cost airline serving to the world class destinations from favorite American small cities and towns. The leisure travel is convenient and affordable with Allegiant Air. It ensures a valued complete traveling experience with low fares, all-jet nonstop service without any hassle.
In 1998, its name was changed to Allegiant Air and the operating certificate was received for the charter and scheduled domestic flights from some cities at Orlando Sanford International Airport, McCarran International Airport of Las Vegas, St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport and Bellingham International Airport. Allegiant Air is also authorized for charter service to Mexico and Canada.
Allegiant Travel is the owner of the airline, which has more than 800 employees who receive the training satisfying all FAA requirements for safety, security and operations.
Allegiant Air focuses on the smaller markets not served by larger airlines. From 2001, it has grown from two destinations to over fifty from Las Vegas, St. Petersburg, Florida and Orlando/Sanford, Florida.
Small cities with limited service of airline passengers are the targets of Allegiant Air. Secondary airports close to large metropolitan areas are some destinations of Allegiant; other destinations are that of small markets with not great or no other airline service.
On October 25 of 2007, Allegiant Air commenced services out of its new fourth focus city and made the base of operations at the Phoenix Mesa Gate Airport in Mesa, Arizona. Thus, it connected the Phoenix metropolitan area to thirteen destinations served by Allegiant already. On November 14, 2007, the airline initiated its service in the 5th focus city, making the base of operations at the Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport. Thus, the South Florida area has been connected to the destinations already served by Allegiant.
Through the Allegiant Vacations branch, Allegiant Air offers attractive vacation packages. Allegiant Vacations operates as a vacation vendor of an in house package. The company made arrangements with thirty-four hotels in Las Vegas and twenty-one in the Daytona Beach, Florida and Orlando areas. The vacations division partners with several show-ticket vendors and rental car agencies.
Nowadays, Allegiant Air flies to fifty-eight destinations all over the United States. The forthcoming changes in schedule will increase Allegiant Air destinations to sixty-one. All the bookings start and/or end at one of the 6 focus operational bases/cities. Therefore, travel reservations between any of the other cities should be made through separate bookings; checked luggage should be claimed and re-checked in one of the 6 focus cities.
On March 1, 2008, the sixth base was opened by Allegiant at Bellingham International Airport in Washington. As part of the expansion, the airline will base two McDonnell Douglas MD-80 aircrafts in Bellingham.
